A Pastor’s Personal Growth through a DMin Course

Abstract

A student’s objective in any course should be personal growth and development. At the beginning of the semester in this student’s Doctor of Ministry course for Biblical Counseling, “Counseling Methodologies for the Pastor/Counselor and Curing of Souls,” at Birmingham Theological Seminary, his professors challenged the cohort to write an essay stating their personal learning objectives for given topics. At the conclusion of the semester, professors directed the students to reflect on the coursework, lectures, readings, and interactions with peers and write a final paper about their personal growth and development related to their stated learning objectives. The following essay represents this student’s reflection about his growth and development.

Mark Horne (MDiv) is pastor of Andrews Presbyterian Church in America, located in Georgetown County, SC. He is currently pursuing his DMin in Biblical Counseling from Birmingham Theological Seminary.
